When Bridge Day arrives, more than 200,000 people converge over the course of the day to take part the day-long festival. BASE jumpers parachute off the New River Gorge Bridge diving 876-feet into the New River Gorge below. Rapellers descend on ropes like caterpillars beneath the mighty bridge. Our Guide to Bridge Day is designed to provide you with information on the festival itself, as well as information on other things to do and see in the local area. In fact, there's so much to do, we hope you'll consider a 2- or 3-day extended vacation in our area of West Virginia!

Bridge Day BASE Jumping -- Not just anyone can leap from the New River Gorge Bridge: jumpers must register months in advance and must make 50 prior skydives or "BASE jumps." BASE is an acronym for the four types of fixed objects from which they may leap -- buildings, antennas, spans, earth.
